japan robot science

A Japanese robotics company was going to be launching its new creation Lisa, an android programmed to be an expert on cooking to cleaning to massage. Lisa will be available dressed casually or revealingly and with the hair length of your choice: short, medium or long. Lisa has been developed by two Kobe students, Etienne Fresse and Yoichi Yamato, and the claim is that they have developed a technology called Recognition Krax System (RKS) which gives Lisa “vocal, tactile and visual recognition.

”What will Lisa do next? Just imagine, now you don’t have to look endlessly for that elusive maid around the house to do all the chores. Maybe Lisa does not even require a day off. While we editorially advise a healthy dose of scepticism over this development. It will give you a basic idea of what Lisa looks like and what she might be capable of. In Japan, so far as robots are concerned, there is really no saying what is real and what is fantasy.

Even if this one turns out to be false, consider where Japan already is in terms of robots. Three years ago Mitsubishi began delivering a yellow coloured robot called Wakamaru, described as a home robot. All of three feet tall, reports said Wakamuru came equipped and programmed to do a very impressive range of chores. Wakamuru could talk and could function as a pet, part security guard and part secretary. The recognition software in Wakamuru enabled it to recognise ten people and greet each individually with a wave. If a stranger entered the house in the owner’s absence, Wakamuru was equipped to send pictures to the mobile phone. If you were a natural worrier you could tell Wakamuru to check if you forgot to turn your gas off and the machine would trundle along and do it. It could keep your child company in its baby sitter role. Endless possibilities. Just imagine, if a Wakamuru could be trained to write editorials, could Lisa be far behind?
