Yahoo! said that it would discontinue the Gmail integration of Xoopit. The Xoopit for Gmail service and the Xoopit Web service are both closing down on 13 November 2009, the company said. Xoopit, which aggregates media files from users' Gmail accounts, was acquired by Yahoo! in July.
According to Yahoo!, "Xoopit teamed up with Yahoo! in July 2009. We are excited to be making the world's best e-mail platform a fantastic place to see and share photos, and decided that the best way to make that happen is to focus on our effort on Yahoo! Mail. We're sad to say goodbye to our users on Gmail but we know that we will not be able to keep investing in our Xoopit for Gmail product, and don't want you to end up with a lousy experience."
Gmail customers' data will not be available after 13 November 2009. Also Xoopit will no longer have access to these customers' data as of 11 February 2010.
Along with access to Xoopit, Yahoo! is also discontinuing its Firefox add-on and Facebook integration for Gmail.
Xoopit is an e-mail plug-in that works with both Gmail and Yahoo! Mail, where it powers the My Photos feature.
