The “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” school of thought is wrong - it’s actually chocolate. In particular, Divine Chocolate. Not only for their Dark Chocolate with Raspberries (my favourite) but also because the company gives chocolate lovers like me the opportunity to vote for change when they buy Divine.
Divine is the only Fairtrade chocolate company that is owned by farmers. In fact they are the major shareholders. The farmers of the Kuapa Kokoo cooperative in Ghana own 45 per cent of the company, which means they are in charge, control their future and earn money that can truly be described as a fair and living wage.
I’m delighted to announce that Divine is our sponsor for this year’s Green Carpet Challenge. Sophi Tranchell MBE and Divine’s managing director – a titan of ethical campaigning! – has been very kind about the GCC, saying: “Like Divine, Livia and Lucy [Siegle] are at the forefront of pushing for fairer, more sustainable design, production and trade – and, like Divine, they do it with style and lashings of glamour!”
Just to reinforce Divine’s glamorous take, check out the brand’s advertising campaign. The models are actually farmers from the Kuapa Kokoo cooperative.
CHOCS AWAY! (sorry)
