Upon arriving back to Bulgaria from Lebanon where he was part of a state delegation led by Prime Minister Borisov, Mladenov commented on the letter of the Foreign Ministers of France and Germany sent to EU Commissioner on home affairs Cecilia Malmstroem stating that Bulgaria and Romania were not ready to join the Schengen Agreement in March 2011, as the two countries have hoped.
"We need to keep in mind that the general situation in Bulgaria, the unresolved problems in the judiciary, the legacy on the issues of corruption and organized crime all reflect upon the Schengen accession process. We just have to resolve this by March, there is no need to try to escape from the truth. As a normal, civilized nation, let all of us work to cut the cord between those who are connected with organized crime and corruption in Bulgaria and those who make Bulgaria's image abroad. We need to get our job done to join Schengen. I am convinced that we will become part of the Schengen Agreement by the end of 2011. The rest is in the hands of the legislative branch and the judiciary," Bulgaria's top diplomat state
Why can't this guy be real, minister of internal affairs has indeed failed to handle the fight against corruption and organise crime since he took that post, why is MVR not doing enough. Bulgaria will have a long way to go if Sveltanov is allowed to continue like this. Is it not because of internal problem that is forcing even the criminal to go abroad and dent Bulgaria image, feed your people, help give their children what they require to become leaders of tomorrow, take proper care of senior citizens who have spent half of their entire life building Bulgaria of today. Put yourselves in their shoes, and work out budget on how to spend the minimum wage of 240 leva in 30 days, and minimum pension of 100 leva, this is a shame. Bulgarians have the right to be happy, 50 percent of Bulgarians have never travelled in a plane, yet you minister fly every day to attend meetings abroad and bring no results, and you want ordinary Bulgarians to tighten their belts. Everyone should participate in this austerity measure, minister should sometimes travel by road and by train to cut spendings. All this counts and the EU want to see the living standard Bulgaria improved, not only border issues. If people are well taking care of by those thy voted to rule them, they will remain and work in the place they were born and never be separated from families, children will not have to leave school early to work. Bad government breeds bad results.
