The exact same thing happened when Jessica's ex-husband Nick Lachey and his long-time girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo announced their engagement (and geezus, it's been five years since the Newlyweds days -- time to move on, people).
If I were Vanessa or Candice, I have to say, I'd be a little pissed that my boyfriend's ex is stealing my thunder.
Not that Jess is doing it on purpose -- it's the media that splashes these headlines. But she sure didn't help matters when she coincidentally got engaged herself immediately following NIck's proposal. Now that another ex has put a ring on it, I can't help but wonder if she and fiance Eric Johnson will suddenly tie the knot in an impromptu Vegas wedding.
Announcing your engagement to the world is a really big moment in a couple's life, and shouldn't be overshadowed by a previous relationship. The former couple has obviously moved on, why haven't we? Critics have even gone as far as saying that Candice eerily resembles not just Jessica, but another ex of Tony's, Carrie Underwood. It's called having a "type." He clearly likes beautiful blondes -- why make it a bigger deal than it is?
Clearly, the media is just trying to dig up any drama that they can possibly find because no one likes to hear about a happy ending (our society is so pessimistic!). Whether this couple stays together forever or divorces within a year, they still at least deserve to enjoy their engagement moment.
Congratulations to the adorable couple!
Does it annoy you when the media tries to create drama when there's clearly none there? What do you think about Tony's engagement
