RUPERT SANDERSON'S latest collection takes the designer's skills to new heights; with the launch of a higher heel. The new 140mm heel appears on four styles complete with a double platform, creating the "different and more daring" effect that he aimed for, although Sanderson's signature clean silhouette is still very much in evidence.

"In terms of design limits, there's only so high you can go with a heel, to create a shoe that's still perfectly balanced and wearable at the same time," Sanderson explains. "I was interested in seeing how high I could build up this heel and platform combination whilst keeping the styles as simple and un-fussy as possible. That's how I came up with the sort of 'abstract' double platform - it looks somehow lighter and less clumpy when 'split' in two. With Picardy I was inspired mostly by material: mixing skins with metallic leathers and combining them with a raw edge for added texture. I love the graphicness and simple colour blocking in Hydra. David Bowie's album Aladdin Sane inspired the Lightning Bolt platforms."
And, after international store launches in Paris and Hong Kong, is 2011 set to be a quieter year for Sanderson? It seems not.
"Well, I'm about to start working with Charlotte Rampling on her new film," he reveals. "I'm hoping to collaborate with design duo the Inoue Brothers , on one of their 2011 projects. And in September we've got our 10 year anniversary, but I can't give anything away about that just yet."
